At MacWorld this time last year Apple announced the iPhone, a revoluntionary touch screen iPod combined with a phone. Later in the year, they also announced a iPod without the phone capabilities and without the monthly phone contract.
When they went on sale in October, I bought one of these new systems, and while I was impressed by it's touch capabilities, it wasn't as stable as I hoped and seemed to crash fairly often. What's more some of the functionality of the iPhone had been removed leaving me yearning for things like writing notes.
At yesterday's MacWorld, Apple announced an update to the iPhone and iPod Touch (version 1.1.3) which would allow Touch users to do a lot more things. Unfortunately, for existing users this functionality came at a price - $20 (or £12.99). But I'd have to say it's worth it - the Touch feels a lot more complete now.
I've made a video blog going through some of the new features - check it out!

No, no saved location. It just knows through Wi-Fi somehow ![]()
I've actually had it zoomed in closer than that. Was a bit surprised when it stopped there during the video demo.
iPhones are cool (obviously they have the same features) - but I've heard some of the "phone" stuff is still pretty bad. They only got the ability to text the same thing to multiple people yesterday, and MMS is still strangely absent.
But obviously, as a phone the system becomes a complete organiser.

Yeah I found out it uses something called Skyhook. Impressive but also quite scary. Read about it more here

Eric, there is a new update available which allows you to add the applications. Check Apple's website for more info.

Great review of the new features. I'm gonna be seriously tempted by an iPhone soon. By the way, even iPhone didn't have 'Locate me' feature on the maps until yesterday... and I don't know how the Touch does it without GSM signal. Unless you're just going to a saved location in your demo?
